Laser Treatment for Spider Veins
Laser leg vein treatment reduces the appearance of superficial red, purple, and blue veins, known as spider veins. The procedure is performed by applying ultrasound gel to the area and then treating the target veins with pulses of laser (light) energy. These pulses coagulate the blood inside the spider vein, causing it to collapse and seal. The initial treatment usually requires 15-30 minutes, depending on the number of veins involved. A follow up is scheduled 6 weeks after the initial treatment for further treatment as needed.
Laser Vein Treatment ~ $300.00 up to 15 minutes
Each additional 15 minutes ~ $125.00
6 week follow up ~ $150.00
How do I know if I am a candidate for laser vein treatment?
Spider veins do not cause symptoms and considered cosmetic. For those who have symptoms, further investigation is done to ensure that they do not have varicose veins. Our laser therapy is most effective for spider veins and not used to treat large varicose veins. People with very dark suntans, photosensitivity conditions, bleeding disorders or who are on blood thinners, or who have a serious illness may not be suitable candidates.
Is laser therapy painful?
During treatment you may feel a tingling sensation. Our laser has a cooling system to cool the surrounding skin to decrease the painful sensation.
Are There Side Effects?
Virtually no ‘down time’ is involved with laser therapy, and in most cases patients can immediately resume normal activity. Pain is quite minor and any swelling or mild bruising that follows treatment almost always resolves quickly. Generally, patients are instructed to limit sun exposure after treatment to minimize risk of complications. One possible side effect is hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation (spots of skin that are lighter or darker than nearby non-treated skin) of the skin around the treatment area, which may fade over time.
How Many Treatments are Needed?
There is no set number of treatments to remedy spider veins, as each patient must be evaluated on the basis of the size and extent of the veins, and the body’s ability to heal. Typically 2 – 3 treatments are necessary until the desired results are achieved.
Will my spider veins return?
Although treatment does not prevent the development of new spider veins, the removal of existing veins can dramatically improve the appearance of the affected area, providing a more youthful, healthy look and an even color pattern to the skin. Spider veins can be recurrent and thus, more treatments may be necessary in the future.
When can you go back to work after laser therapy?
Patients are encouraged to resume all normal activities immediately. Final results may not be apparent for several months. Most patients are satisfied by the results in a very short time.
